The Threshold I — What Astral Projection Actually Is

I want to start with something honest. At some point in our lives, we all die. We will leave our bodies behind. This isn’t supposed to be a huge mystery. It’s nature. Our ancestors not only knew that it wasn’t the end, but they also knew how to build the bridge between worlds. Time and a long history of suppression have shrouded that knowledge in fear. We tend to demonize what we don’t understand. But don’t you sometimes find that your own curiosity outweighs the fear?

That’s what this series is for

What the internet will tell you- the official definition- the Google PR team version - is that astral projection is an intentional out-of-body experience where a person’s consciousness, often referred to as the astral body, separates from the physical form. Practitioners believe the subtle body can travel independently across the physical world and explore nonphysical realms known as astral planes.

Accurate. Also completely sterile.

What it actually is

Astral travel is a naturally occurring function of the physical and metaphysical body - no different than breathing or digesting food. It has been deeply repressed and villainized by the powers that be to withhold knowledge of our universally given, sacred abilities. Turns out we can do much more than work, suffer, pay taxes, and pass on.

Astral projection is the ability to explore our universe across the multiple dimensional planes that exist within and without time and space itself. A function achieved through our internal portals - what we refer to as chakras.

This happens nightly as you sleep, whether you are conscious of it or not. The practice of astral projection is simply the process of becoming conscious during the experience. Aware from start to finish. So that you are intentionally projecting rather than just observing. It is frequently mistaken for dreaming. It is not a dream.

The Light Body

We are more than our physical form. We exist in multiple layers simultaneously - and it is one of those layers, the light body, that this series will focus on. The full map of those layers comes in the next post. For now, know this: the light body is what leaves.

It roams the in-between - the dimensional layers of reality stacked on top of one another, existing within and without time and space. Our subconscious is deeply connected to this light body, which is why the process of awareness begins there.

The channels your light body uses to exit are your chakras, arranged from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Where your exit point originates depends on how open or active those chakras are. The lower the chakra, the heavier and more obscure the experience. The higher the chakra, the cleaner and more solid the experience. The goal is to exit from a high chakra - preferably the crown.

The natural window for this to occur is between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., when melatonin is at its highest levels in the body - 10 to 100 times higher than daytime levels. Supporting your natural melatonin production will assist that process - something we’ll return to in a later post.

Who can do this

Everyone.

Some people have a more natural talent and will hone the ability faster than others. But with consistent practice and a positive mindset, everyone can achieve real results. This is a naturally occurring function of the body - you are not learning something foreign. You are remembering and reclaiming something that was always yours.

Astral projection sits at the edge of lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is often the gateway - they go hand in hand. If you can accomplish one, you will likely accomplish the other quickly. There is also evidence that consistent practice opens other abilities: clairvoyance, remote viewing, clairaudience… basically all the clairs tend to follow. The brain operates in theta frequency - between 4 and 8 Hz - during astral projection, and this is the same frequency underlying all of these techniques. Find the state that works for you, and the rest tends to open.

I’m not asking for your agreement or your belief. Comprehending a topic doesn’t mean you have to accept it. My only hope is that those with curiosity will go looking - because all the proof you will ever need is waiting in your own experience.

What comes next?

The light body doesn’t travel alone. It travels within a framework - a map that ancient and esoteric traditions have been refining for thousands of years. Next, we’ll look at that map - The Threshold II - The Body of Light
